A Mission Trip

I have just sent a very good friend off to the airport for her embarkation on a mission trip to Ubon Ratchathani, Northern Thailand.  On this mission trip, there will be 21 others joining her in visiting some villages in Ubon Ratchathani and Khong Chiam.

The mission group will set up medical and dental clinics to provide free check-ups to the hard core poor villagers.  Medication and vitamin supplements will be provided free of charge to them alongwith some used books and old clothings, all of which are hand carried by the group all the way from Kuala Lumpur.  As the villagers are deprived of these basic necessities, they really look forward to the arrival of these people and they appreciate very much the effort made by the group to provide them with the basic needs they could not afford.

As for the mission group, the trip will be an eye opener for some newcomers, for them to learn of the hardship faced by the villagers and how they should appreciate what they have back home.  And the rest of them, it is within them to reach out to the villagers, to help and provide in whatever way they could. All of the expenses incurred in this trip are out of each individual's pocket.

I'd like to salute the mission group for their kindness, determination and love they have for the less fortunate.  Well done, fellas!

The Attitude of the "Mixed Rice" Seller

I should not be upset with this "Mixed Rice" seller, instead I should pity him for not giving his regular customers the kind of service that he should.

You see, I went to his stall, wanting to buy a packet of rice with some dishes very quickly as it was getting late.  Normally, people who patronise this type of food stall are those who could not find time to cook or who could not cook at all, to have a quick meal or something.  To my disappointment, he did not have any more rice to sell to me but surprisingly there were still a lot of dishes (vegetables, meat, eggs, seafood, etc.) left.  And so I bought some food with the intention of cooking my own rice to go with them.

As soon as I paid, two customers came and surprisingly, he produced two plates of white rice from his rice container, for them!  I did not intend to confront him but told myself instead that I cannot allow him to spoil my dinner via his actions.  I will enjoy my 'home cooked' dinner and you know what, I did!

Attempting to lose weight

My daughter has been trying hard to lose weight but has not been very successful.  She loves food, especially fast food.  The more she tried to lose weight, the more she ate.  I too tried to help her by introducing 'good food' and encourage exercising, as part of her 'weight loss' programme.  As you may already know, good food does not alway taste good.  But after many many days of sweat, tears and torture, it didn't work! She gave up.

I feel a lot more effort should be put into this if she is determined to lose some weight, as the saying goes "No Pain No Gain".  She feels being deprived of a lot of her favourite food, pressurised to achieve her ideal weight and worse of all, she couldn't endure the pain as a result of, exercising!

Well, it all comes down to her will power.  Mentally, she is not prepared and lip service will continue until such time she is ready to do it.  She can if she has the determination and when she does, she WILL succeed! I wish her all the best, won't you?

A deserving holiday

It has been quite sometime since I last splurged on a decent holiday, or so I thought.  With the airline promotions and dip in US Dollar against the Ringgit, I was contemplating on treating the kids to a much deserving holiday by the white sandy beach and crystal clear water of Mauritius.

The "or so I thought" factor obviously changed my mind.  I have been thinking, if I spend so much on a Mauritius holiday, I may have to burst my credit cards paying for it.  Not really something that I should do at all!

However, having said that, I still feel that if I want a holiday, a really good one, I should work hard for it.  So, if I start planning, putting aside some money, putting in more hours in my work and so forth, I am confident that I can therefore I will have that holiday.  As the saying goes, nothing is impossible!

Speak with Confidence

Have you ever thought of speaking before a full house audience?  It has been said that the greatest fear people have is of speaking in public!  They are afraid of being embarrassed, making mistakes and even look foolish.  These are what we call "irrational fears".  No amount of assurance will put the suffering speakers at ease.

Speakers must be confident when expected to speak in public.  They must overcome their fears in public speaking through preparation, enthusiasm, smile and most importantly, confidence.  With all these in place, you have every reason to be confident.  And when you are confident, there is no stopping you from delivering a well planned speech or presentation!

Unleash Your Mind

Hi, I will ask you something very weird right now.  First of all, I want you to listen to your thoughts.  Would you label them as positive, or negative?

Thoughts are very powerful. They affect your general attitude. The attitude you carry reflects on your appearance, and affect people around you.  It can be either positive or negative.

Positive And Negative Thoughts
A positive attitude begins with a healthy self-image. If you will love the way you are and are satisfied, confident, and self-assured, you also make others around you feel the same way. Always bear in mind I Can Therefore, I Will and, you will!

A negative attitude has, of course, an opposite effect. So, carrying a negative attitude has a twofold drawback. You feel bad about yourself, and you make others feel the same way.

You have much to gain from a very positive attitude. For one, studies have shown that a positive attitude promotes better health. Those with this kind of attitude also have more friends and projecting a positive attitude also helps one to handle stress and problems far better than those with a negative attitude.

Stress And Humor
What’s really interesting is that how do people go through the usual part of life when faced with vein-popping stress? The new age thing like Zen or Yoga is one of the good things and I can tell you, it actually works.

Humor is indeed the best medicine there is whenever you are.  Anyone can pay good money to listen to a comedian just to make you wet your pants after laughing so hard. It's better to just laugh while facing your troubles with a clear mind than anger with a clouded vision.

Life is About Choices and the Decisions We Make
Why make a certain decision if you knew from the very beginning that it is not the right one. It is only after you've made a decision and reflected on it that you realize its soundness. If the consequences or outcomes are good for you, then you have decided correctly.

Despite of what may happen to all of us in the next ten, twenty, or even thirty years, I guess we all have to see things in a different kind of light and not just perspective. I can't seem to imagine life without any piece of wisdom that could guide us.

Happy as You Want to Be
Living a happy, resilient and optimistic life is wonderful.  Abraham Lincoln observed that most people for most of the time can choose how happy or stressed, how relaxed or troubled, how bright or dull their outlook to be. Therefore, the choice is simple really, choose to be happy.

And to sum things up, here is the last nugget of wisdom to go by… however, whenever, and wherever we may be, the talent for being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don't have!
